This book was about Bernd, the author, spending an entire year secluded in the mountainous western Maine wilderness in a cabin that he built by hand. Bernd dissects elements of natural living, seasonal changes, weather, wildlife patterns in the region and explains about his discovery of Maine, living alone, and surviving in the woods. I read this book because I enjoy Maine wilderness stories and seldom have read more detailed accounts in the modern sense than those portrayed by Bernd Heinrich.
